Oh heaven's those are so dreamy. Will the shop be stocking ladies riding accessories any time soon? And is there much diffrence between the gendered sports hats of the era? I ask because I read a (rather dubiously cited) list of rules from a Victorian ladies club and among them were not wearing men's hats and no wearing of short skirts over ones bloomers while riding with the club.

The social stigma mostly went the other direction - it was much less common for men to wear any item of women's clothing (I would say unheard of) than for women to wear men's accessories - especially with sportswear. The reason the club might have had such a rule (if it did) is that it was (in fact) quite common for young women to wear their beau's cap - think of it as the 'boyfriend jacket' of the era. Part of the reason for the increasing popularity of more men's style caps and hats heading into the 1890s was the rising influence of military fashions for both men and women. Sarah covers a lot of these topics in her books!
