All stories come from somewhere, and sometimes the best of them start when an author's research unearths something surprising which refuses to let go of their imagination. Find out how an 1891 description of a posh American Indian and her pretty phaeton inspired my latest book by going toA Trip and a Tumble:

So thrilled to see your website today. I live in a almost 300 year old house in rural MS, that has been passed down since it was built thru the women in the family...most recently from my Grandmother to my Mother and my Mother to me. There were things in the house, clothing, furniture, documents, photos, kitchen ware ect dating from the time the house was built. Some items were clothing and needlework. I have become obsessed with the idea of wanting to wear clothing of the civil war era around the house to see what it felt like to live in that type of clothing. I found your website thanks to my son for suggesting a new search engine while trying to find more information about the period's clothing. I totally admire your obsession with the Victorian period and all that you have done to inform us all about the details of that way of life....Thank you for having the passion and the intelligence to communicate all that you have learned to the general public.
